Jocelyn Marchyok

Project Lead, ContaMiNot

Sustainability and Food Production Coordinator, M|Dining

Jocelyn Marchyok is a Sustainability and Food Production Coordinator with M|Dining and previously worked with the Office of Campus Sustainability (OCS) as a Program Assistant. She graduated in 2019 with a B.S.E in Chemical Engineering focusing in Sustainable Engineering and is pursuing her M.S. in Sustainable Systems. At M|Dining, she works on implementing composting practices at the University of Michigan and also manages a vertical farming system. During her time at OCS, Jocelyn met Jule and Bilge and together, they realized the need for a solution to the problem many people face of not knowing where to dispose of trash. Together, they submitted a proposal for ContaMiNot at Hacks with Friends 2019 and the rest is history! Jocelyn is very excited to collaborate with the wonderful ContaMiNot team to produce a user-friendly app that the UofM community can utilize to manage waste contamination and help change the culture around sustainability.

Alyssa Roest

Program Assistant

Office of Campus Sustainability

Alyssa Roest is a junior studying Chemical Engineering at U-M and currently works as a program assistant at the Office of Campus Sustainability. In working there she has staffed many Zero Waste events and worked to expand the composting program across campus. She has seen that contamination is a constant and ongoing problem across waste streams, and she is excited about ContaMiNot's potential to reduce contamination and increase knowledge about sustainable behaviors. Alyssa is impressed by the enthusiasm of the ContaMiNot team and hopes to learn more about machine learning and app development throughout this process.

Jennifer Burch

Data Coordinator, Web Dev Support, ContaMiNot

IT Project Manager Senior, ITS

Jen Burch is a Senior Project Manager in the ITS Project Management Office with many years of Technology Project Management Experience. Let's just call her a 'seasoned' PM. Ha! 2019 was her first time participating in Hacks with Friends. There were a couple of projects that appealed to her but the deciding factor was the personal confusion standing there in front of the recycle and trash bins the first morning of HWF. Even with the signage, the answers were not obvious. Jule's and Bilge's enthusiasm proved that this was the project to support. Things I learned at HWF19:

  • Have at least a couple people named Chris on your team.
  • Folks with plaid shirts are fun to work with.
  • Project Leads with genuine enthusiasm for the topic are a must have!
